The Texas Board of Legal Specialization has recently released the names of its 2010 inductees receiving the designation as Board Certified attorneys in various practice areas. F+M Partner Don D. Ford III has achieved the distinction of becoming Board Certified in Estate Planning and Probate. He was one of only three attorneys in Houston and one of only fourteen attorneys in the entire state of Texas to become Board Certified in Estate Planning and Probate in 2010.
Board Certification requires an attorney to have been licensed more than 5 years, to have practiced in the specific area of law for a significant part of their career, and to have obtained at least 10 recommendations from attorneys and judges with whom the attorney has worked. The Certification also requires completion of a rigorous exam, similar to the Bar exam required of all attorneys in Texas. Unlike the Bar exam, however, the Board Certification exam is concentrated specifically in the attorney’s practice area specialty and is designed to test a wide array of topics in the practice area to ensure that the attorney has substantial experience and knowledge of the practice area.
Fewer than 1% of all attorneys in Texas have achieved the designation of being Board Certified. However, Board Certified attorneys complete more continuing education each year than other attorneys, and Board Certified attorneys are generally recognized as experts in their field.
Mr. Ford has practiced exclusively in the areas of Estate Planning, Probate, and Guardianships during his entire career. He has a wide range of experience within this field and is very deserving of the distinction of being Board Certified. The members of Ford+Bergner LLP are proud of Mr. Ford and congratulate him on this achievement.
