F+B partner Don Ford is a contributing author to a recently published book entitled Your Complete Guide to Leaving an Inheritance for your Children and Others. Ford was one of five attorneys from around the country asked to contribute case studies to this layman’s guide to estate and inheritance issues.
The Guide covers a broad range of topics in a very easily-readable format. These topics include tips for starting to think about how you want to plan your estate to overviews of Wills, trusts and other estate planning tools. In addition, the Guide gives you very practical issues that you should consider when thinking about your estate plan – for instance, how to address complicated family situations when someone dies.
In Ford’s case study, he discusses some of the tools that can be found on the internet for making the estate planning process “easier,” but as Ford points out, these tools can often times make the process much harder because of the lack of expertise of the people using the tools and the failure of the tools to conform to specific state laws.
The Guide is authored by Michael A. Valles, who is not a lawyer, but instead is a financial write and teacher who hopes to provide education that is both practical and easy to understand. The 288-page Guide is a 2008 publication by the Atlantic Publishing Group, Inc.
